Obituary, Terra L. McGonegal, Virginia Beach

Terra LeVan McGonegal, beloved wife and fantastic mother, was taken to be with the Lord Oct. 20, 2006, after a long illness. Terra was born in Amarillo, Texas, on March 12, 1967. Along with her two sisters, Terra spent her youth as an Air Force brat living in various parts of the United States as well as overseas, finally settling in Poquoson where she attended middle and high school, graduating in 1985. As a star runner and swimmer from high school, Terra used her skills as a two sport varsity athlete at Virginia Tech. Upon earning her master's degree from Virginia Tech, she worked on staff at Campus Crusade for Christ to spread the good news of the Lord. She returned to the Hampton Roads area in 1995, eventually teaching and coaching at Poquoson High School. It was at this time that she met her husband, Steele. They were married in November of 1997. Two wonderful children followed. The family moved to Virginia Beach in 2001. Terra was extremely involved in the Virginia National Guard's Family Readiness Group, civic league of her neighborhood and the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach.

The McGonegals are active members of Spring Branch Community Church. Terra is survived by her husband of nine years, Steele; two children, Lilly Kate, 7, and Steele, 4 1/2. She is also survived by her parents, Jay and Sue LeVan of Charleston, S.C.; her grandfather, Charles W. Tobin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her sister, Kelly Pierce, husband, David, and son, Nicholas; her sister, Anne Marie and husband Mark. She is also survived by six sisters-in-law and numerous aunts, uncles nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in H.D.

Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at noon in Spring Branch Community Church on Great Neck Road by the Rev. Michael Simone. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Terra McGonegal Family Education Fund c/o Wachovia Bank or to the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, 1053 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or to the Samaritan House, P.O.
